Bernie Deem
Bernice "Bernie" Deem, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) is the owner and president of DeemHR, a regional management consulting firm specializing in human resources. Prior to opening her company in 1999, Bernie had 20 years of hands on experience in HR, culminating as the Senior Executive of Human Resources for One Valley Bank and Bancorp (now BB&T).

With top notch corporate experience as well as first hand business experience, Bernie Deem is a well-known figure in the HR community.  DeemHR provides HR support on a part-time, interim, or retainer basis for nearly 100 companies in the state and nearby regions as diverse as Charleston Newspapers  to Aker-Kvaerner.  She is a frequently requested guest speaker and has presented for numerous state and regional seminars and conferences. She is most notably known for her charismatic, high energy, and sometimes unusual presentation style which has defined her as one of the best HR mentors in the state.

Vicki Ballengee

Vicki Ballengee, Director of Sales and Service, joined DeemHR October 1, 2009. 

Her experiences includes financial planning, investments, marketing and retail management.  She most enjoys helping companies succeed with growth and profitability through happy, productive, and successful employees.  After 30+ years of management experience at five banks ranging in size from $140 million to $3 billion, Vicki is having fun helping others be successful.

Lauren Childress
Lauren recently joined DeemHR as Project Manager.  She holds a BA from WVU in Psychology with a focus in Applied Behavior Analysis and minored in Business Administration.  She graduated from WVU with her Masters from the College of Business & Economics in Industrial/Labor Relations. 

She did her internship at Kennametal Inc. and worked as an HR Generalist there before she relocated to WV after her marriage last August.

Jan Hensley
After serving as Vice President of Career Search, Inc. for eight years, Jan established Career Pros International (CPI). The purpose of CPI is to establish, train, and support a network of professional career counselors to provide career expansion services to individuals in career transition and management succession, personnel development and outplacement programs to corporate clients.  CPI’s network of professionals now spans a five-state region and two countries worldwide.  Jan developed her skills as a Career Counselor during approximately fifteen years of career development and counseling experience in the university arena.  

In 2002, Jan achieved the certification level of Career Management Practitioner through the Institute of Career Certification International (ICCI). Fewer than 400 career counselors worldwide have achieved this level of certification. Jan is currently working on her certification as a Career Management Fellow through the ICCI.

Sheri Rasberry
Sheri has been with DeemHR for over two years as the Conference Coordinator.  She attended Marshall University and previously worked for the Marriott in Raleigh, NC as the HR Manager.  After returning to WV she worked as an HR Generalist at the Marriott in Charleston.

Debbie Varney

Debbie Varney is a Senior Consultant at DeemHR.  She is a seasoned HR professional in benefits, compensation, HRIS, training, payroll, employment and dealing with difficult situations.  She is effective in systems management and administration and has great problem solving skills. 

In the past, Debbie led stress reduction classes, helped develop a teller training certification program and lead behavioral change workshops.

Debbie is efficient, effective and driven, with a natural inclination to do great work in a minimal amount of time. She is a social intuitive, effective communicator, a natural promoter of great ideas and great people.
